Net margin

The share of sales left as profit after every cost, including interest and tax.

How it’s calculated

Net income ÷ revenue. Also called net profit margin.

How to read it

It is the bottom line expressed as a percentage of sales. Negative means the company made a loss.

Net income includes one-off gains and losses, so the operating margin is often a steadier read of the underlying business.

How StockDecks scores it

Higher scores better. On the general benchmark, 0% counts as weak, 7% as typical and 15% as strong.

It is one of the measures behind the Profitability rating. Every measure, benchmark and weighting is set out on the methodology page.
