EV/EBITDA
A valuation multiple that accounts for debt as well as the share price.
How it’s calculated
Enterprise value (market value + debt − cash) ÷ EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation).
How to read it
Because it includes debt, it lets you compare companies that are financed differently. Lower means you are paying less for each unit of operating earnings.
EBITDA leaves out the cost of replacing worn-out equipment, which matters a lot in capital-heavy industries. It is rarely used for banks.
How StockDecks scores it
Lower scores better. On the general benchmark, 8 counts as strong, 15 as typical and 35 as weak.
It is one of the measures behind the Valuation rating. Every measure, benchmark and weighting is set out on the methodology page.
