Price to sales (P/S)
How the company’s total market value compares with a year of its sales.
How it’s calculated
Market capitalisation ÷ revenue over the last twelve months.
How to read it
Useful for companies that don’t yet make a profit, since nearly every company has sales. A business with high margins can justify a higher P/S than one with thin margins.
It ignores profitability entirely, so it is best read alongside the margins.
How StockDecks scores it
Lower scores better. On the general benchmark, 2 counts as strong, 5 as typical and 15 as weak.
It is one of the measures behind the Valuation rating. Every measure, benchmark and weighting is set out on the methodology page.
