Dividend yield
A year’s dividends as a percentage of the share price.
How it’s calculated
Annual dividend per share ÷ share price.
How to read it
A 4% yield means a shareholder receives dividends worth 4% of the share price each year, if the payout is maintained. Many fast-growing companies pay none.
Dividends are never guaranteed and can be cut.
How StockDecks scores it
Part of the Dividend reading, which feeds the Premium Full Score. Yield is scored on a curve that peaks at around 6% and then falls, because a very high yield often means the market doubts the payout will last.
It is one of the measures behind the Dividend rating. Every measure, benchmark and weighting is set out on the methodology page.
